How much sugar is in your drinks?

The World Health Organization recommends that average adults and children intake no more than 25 grams of sugar per day. Here is a list of some of the most commonly consumed drinks in the US along with their sugar content:

 Soda:

  • Coca Cola (12 oz) – 39 grams of sugar

  • Dr Pepper (12 oz) – 41 grams of sugar

  • Fanta (12 oz) – 22.8 grams of sugar

  • Mountain Dew (12 oz) – 46 grams

  • Orange Crush (20 oz) – 71 grams

  • Sprite (12 oz) – 38 grams

  • Sunkist Orange (12 oz) – 52 grams

  •

Juices & Smoothies:

  • Lipton Iced Tea (20 oz) – 53 grams of sugar

  • Jamba Juice Aloha Pineapple Smoothie (16 oz) – 67 grams

  • Jamba Juice Banana Berry Smoothie (16 oz) – 59 grams

  •

Coffee:

  • Dunkin’ Donuts Coolatta (24 oz) – 73 grams of sugar

  • McCafe Mocha (16 oz) – 53 grams of sugar

  • Starbucks Caffe Latte (16 oz) – 20 grams

  • Starbucks Caffe Mocha (16 oz) – 33 grams

  •

It is easy to attain the sugar content of most drinks by simply conducting a google search. There are also some great apps. I recommend drinking natural beverages like water or tea to quench your thirst. It is easy to jazz up their flavour by slicing fresh fruit, like lemons, oranges or kiwis, to mix into your drink.
