Gut Directed Hypnotherapy and IBS
How does hypnotherapy help in improving issues with Irritable Bowel Syndrome? As hypnosis involves a state of relaxation it can alter a persons anxiety and stress levels especially when it is used on a regular basis. I begin by teaching my clients self hypnosis so they can use the deep relaxation methods at home. This may help to reduce your heart rate, blood pressure and allow your muscles to relax reducing tention. When used frequently the feelings of relaxation and calm should increase and begin to impact the pain associated with the IBS.
When you attend thhe free consultation, I take a detailed history of your issue and ask a number of questions about your lifestyle. With IBS hypnosis we will spend a significant amount of time discussing your stress levels and the areas which may be impacting them. Following this assessment I will create a program of hypnotherapy to tackle your particular issues. You will also be taught self hypnosis or given an audio CD so that you can practice the relaxation at home.
There are a number of studies that have shown that hypnosis can have a considerable impact on IBS symptoms. The Wall Street Journal reported that just one hour of hypnosis a week for a period of 12 weeks eased symptoms in 40% of the trial participants. It was shown that the positive impact of these sessions could last for up to 7 years!.
